Welcome to the new semester! We are already excited to meet many of the new students who have come to Leiden to study, au pair, or be part of an exchange program. I still remember my first year here as a student, being part of the introduction weeks, riding on the back of a bike for the first time (scary!) and trying to decipher what those funny words were saying on the food labels in the store, hoping it would be something I recognized.
These first weeks are also a great time to build friendships and get to know the city! Come join us on Wednesday nights for our Radiate small groups, or Sunday mornings for the gatherings at 11am. We also have extra events throughout the week and sometimes on weekends, so be sure to check out the Facebook page at Radiate 2011-2012.
Leiden is a great place to live, and we hope we can be part of your journey here.

Welcome to Leiden!
Radiate wants to welcome you to a new semester with a party! Saturday February 12th we will kick off the year with a “bearded party” in solidarity with the Beligians everywhere who would like a new government and are growing out their beards until they get one (well… really it’s just for fun).
Here are the details:

Time: 19.30-22.00
Wear, grow or draw a beard and come join the bearded festivities! Beards Pub Quiz, food, drinks, chilled out atmosphere, and an introduction to what Radiate is all about. If you don’t have a beard, come anyway and join the fun!

We are kicking off the semester with a welcome dinner this week with dessert, games and an overview of what we’ll be up to. Wednesday nights will be our new meeting night, and the most up-to-date information is found on our Facebook page. Gatherings usually consist of Bible study, prayer time, fun and relaxing hang out, dinners, Sunday lunches, a weekend retreat, and outings to the beach (in good weather!), other cities, and great discussions.

I always get a little nostalgic as the year draws to a close, and this year I thought I would put some memories in pictures up from what we’ve been up to as Radiate. 2010 has been full of great memories, like going to Katwijk beach and spending an afternoon lounging in the sun with good food and conversation. Or when Katie came and decided to get baptized, in a bathtub. Or when we went to Delft for a weekend away this November, and some people saw snow for the first time! And when we spent that night praying together last spring, for each person to be able to hear from God, and He really showed up and spoke profoundly in our lives. Life sure is an adventure with Jesus, and we’re loving it. Enjoy the slide show, and we look forward to a great year in 2011 with many new memories together!

We are moving to Thursday nights and a new location! Join us this Thursday and (almost) every Thursday until Christmas at our new location and day to have meaningful discussions, laugh together, and learn about God. This week:

Many new students are arriving now into Leiden to make it their home for the next four months, a year, or maybe more. From over 80 countries and many languages, international students are just learning about Dutch culture, Dutch food, and how to say “dank je wel”. And we are excited that you are here!
Tomorrow night Radiate will kick off its first night of the semester to say welcome and we hope that you can come too.

Radiate: to shine brightly.
That is what we want to do in Leiden. We are a group of Christian international and Dutch students living and studying in Leiden, and we want to learn how to shine brightly the amazing grace and love of Jesus.
We meet together regularly, pray and expect God to speak into our lives, and provide space for others who are searching for answers to join the community.
